Moser Baer plans 4000 MW thermal power plant in Guj

Ahmedabad: The Moser Baer group is scouting for a location along Gujarat’s coastline to set up a 4000 MW coalbased thermal power plant. 
    “We have recently inked agreement with Gujarat government to invest Rs 20,000 crore over a period of time. Our experts are closely working with the state industries department to identify location, which is ideal for importing coal. The site might be near some of the existing ports. We may also build our own jetty,” said Ratul Puri, chairman of Moser Baer Projects. 
    The company is also setting up coal-based thermal power plants in Madhya Pradesh (2500 MW) and Chhatisgarh (1320 MW) besides a 550MW hydro power project in Himachal Pradesh. 
    When contacted, sources in the state industries department said that they had suggested sites near Mundra in Kutch, near Veraval and Kodinar in Junagadh district and also near Pipavav port. 
    Meanwhile, Moser Baer 
Clean Energy Ltd (MBCEL), a group company is commissioning Asia’s largest solar farm in Banaskantha on Friday. The 30MW solar farm has been set up with an investment of Rs 465 crore. 
    The project awarded under Gujarat Solar Power policy on 300 acres, will be inaugurated by Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi. The company is also setting up two more solar power plants in Gujarat in Porbandar (15 MW) and at Odu near Surendranagar (50MW). 
    The company plans to raise $600 million from investors including The Blackstone Group, International Finance Corporation (IFC), IFCI Ltd and Macquarie Group to fund energy related projects.
